The Desktop WritePROtect™ from Logicube comes in two versions; one for IDE and the other for SATA drive protection. The IDE Destop WritePROtect provides IDE hard drive protection from alteration (either inadvertent or malicious), either through a direct cable connection, or through a USB connection.

The SATA Destop WritePROtect provides SATA hard drive protection from alteration (either inadvertent or malicious), either through a direct cable connection, or through a USB connection.

This data recovery adapter is programmed to allow only a small subset of the ATA specification commands to flow to the protected drive (reading commands) and blocks all other commands.

The Desktop Write PROtect™ connects via IDE or SATA cable to our HDD forensic tools for data capture. The WritePROtect™ adapter also guarantees read-only access when analyzing the captured or cloned drive under Windows. This ensures full drive protection against inadvertent writes by user or operating system. Furthermore, such write attempt commands are logged on the forensic tools adapter LCD and stored into memory.

Features Optional Hardware Specifications
Connection Mode 1
Hard drive connects directly to a motherboard using the flat IDE cables. User will typically boot from the working drive on the primary IDE channel and connect the Desktop Writeprotect (and the drive to be checked) on the secondary channel.
Connection Mode 2
User may safely capture or clone a source drive with any of Logicube's hand-held cloning units that may have bi-directional capability. User places a Desktop Writeprotect device between the cloning unit and the source hard drive. This setup ensures the intergrity of the source drive.
Connection Mode 3
User may connect any IDE hard drive to a PC using the USB port. No other equipment is necessary for this functionality. The hard drive becomes protected from any inadvertent writes by user or writes from the PCs operating system. This mode is useful in analyzing a drive.
Connection Mode 4
Mode 4 is highly useful when capturing a suspect drive through the USB port, utilizing Logicube's data capturing products. During the capturing phase, the PC is booted from a DOS floppy and the protection is momentarily disabled within the writeprotect adapter. Once the capture is finished the protection is once again engaged. All Forensic units are inherently uni-directional and do not need the protection during the capture phase. The Forensic unit and adapter can now be connected to a PC running Windows for drive analysis.
